Whoever the Green Bay Packers appoint as their defensive line coach will be their third in the past three years. Last week, the Packers dismissed Jason Rebrovich following Green Bay’s pass rush significantly underperforming in 2024. Previously, he served as the team’s coach for outside linebackers and as a specialist in pass rushing.
Last season marked Rebrovich’s initial tenure as the Packers’ defensive line coach, although he previously held that role with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. He received a promotion after Green Bay let go of Jerry Montgomery after the 2023 season and dismissed defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
Montgomery served as the defensive line coach for the New England Patriots over the last year. After their transition in head coach from Jerod Mayo to Mike Vrabel, he became available again on the market. He quickly found a new job.
Cincinnati Bengals Have Hired Jerry Montgomery, Former Defensive Line Coach for the Green Bay Packers.
Multiple sources indicate that Montgomery has been appointed as the defensive line coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. His appointment follows the team’s agreement with Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden for the same position within their organization.
Although this will be Montgomery’s third team in as many years, he has an excellent reputation throughout the league. Before his dismissal by the Packers, he spent nine seasons on the staff of both Mike McCarthy and Matt LaFleur.
Before coming to Green Bay, Montgomery served as a defensive line coach for several college teams, such as Wyoming, Michigan, Indiana, and Oklahoma.
The Packers have recently conducted an interview with former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington for the role of defensive line coach, but a decision has not been reached yet.
