Carlos Sainz is convinced that Ferrari’s prospects of securing the Formula 1 World Championship in 2025 have “only improved” with the inclusion of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in the Scuderia’s team.
As Sainz begins his new journey with Williams, he recognizes the bittersweet emotions of departing from Ferrari right when he feels they are poised for a title challenge.
Hamilton’s transition from Mercedes to the House of Maranello has sparked significant enthusiasm, and Sainz thinks the F1 veteran’s expertise will be crucial.
Evaluating Hamilton’s Potential
Although Sainz has never competed with Hamilton, he acknowledges the British driver’s great skill and accomplishments. However, evaluating the Briton’s chances with his previous team relies on numerous factors.
“To be truthful, I’m uncertain.” “I haven’t been on the same team as Lewis, so I’m not aware of what he can achieve,” Sainz replied when asked about the matter during the launch of Williams’ FW47 at Silverstone on Friday.
I have never viewed his data. However, I’ve observed Charles [Leclerc] and understand how talented he is. However, I’ve never been a team-mate with Lewis, and the only way to truly assess a driver is when you’re on the same team and can observe their capabilities firsthand.
Despite insufficient details, Sainz firmly believes in Hamilton’s capabilities.
“When I evaluate based on outcomes, his history, and his accomplishments, I can only conclude that there’s a strong likelihood he will surely be competitive with Ferrari,” he stated.
“However, similar to everything, it will rely on your ability to adjust to a car, your capacity to integrate with a team, and the current state of your teammate.”
“There are countless factors that make it impossible for me to foresee.”
Ferrari’s chances for a title have only gone up.
Ferrari’s capability to produce a championship-contending vehicle will undoubtedly be a vital factor in the success of its drivers this season.
Last year, the Scuderia narrowly missed winning the constructors’ championship, ending only 14 points behind McLaren.
As the regulations stabilize for the last year of the existing formula, Ferrari aims to start strong in 2025.
By the day’s conclusion, Sainz remarked that Hamilton’s entry, combined with Leclerc’s clear skill, positions Ferrari strongly to compete for the championship.
“I can only say that when I departed from Ferrari, I sensed the team, including both Ferrari and Charles, were prepared to compete for a World Championship,” he stated.
“With Lewis coming on board, that opportunity is set to rise.”
It remains uncertain if Hamilton can swiftly adjust to take advantage of Ferrari’s potential, but one fact is clear: the Scuderia’s 2025 season is poised to be one of its most promising efforts in years.
