One unauthorized use is enough to upset Eminem—or at least the partial owners of his music catalog.
While the “Somebody Save Me” rapper often shows love for Detroit, it seems one local business has crossed the line.
According to TMZ, Eminem’s song “Lose Yourself” is now at the center of a copyright lawsuit.
On January 27, Eight Mile Style, a partial owner of his catalog, reportedly filed a lawsuit against LaFontaine Ford St.
Clair, a dealership accused of using the track without permission in a recent ad.
The dealership’s promotion for a limited-edition Detroit Lions Ford F-150 truck included Eminem’s song as well as a lyrical nod in its caption:
“You only get one shot to own a Special Edition Detroit Lions F-150.”
Eight Mile Style criticized LaFontaine Ford St. Clair for bypassing the proper licensing process.
Despite Eminem’s history of supporting the Detroit Lions, the company isn’t willing to let this slide.
The lawsuit highlighted a previous Chrysler campaign that did pay to license the song.
Eight Mile Style is seeking unspecified damages and has demanded the ad’s immediate removal.
