As of now, there is no public information about Eminem’s music publisher suing a Ford dealership in Detroit for using “Lose Yourself” in their advertisements.
However, there have been similar instances in the past where Eminem’s publisher, Eight Mile Style, has taken legal action against companies for unauthorized use of the song.
In 2011, Eight Mile Style filed a lawsuit against German car manufacturer Audi for allegedly using “Lose Yourself” in a commercial without permission. The lawsuit claimed that Audi’s advertisement not only used the song without authorization but also bore similarities to a Chrysler commercial that featured Eminem and the same track.
Additionally, in 2004, Eight Mile Style sued Apple Inc., Viacom Inc., and the advertising agency TBWA/Chiat/Day for using “Lose Yourself” in an iTunes advertisement without permission. The lawsuit emphasized that Eminem had never endorsed commercial products and that any endorsement deal would require significant compensation.
These cases highlight Eight Mile Style’s proactive stance in protecting Eminem’s music from unauthorized commercial use. If a Ford dealership in Detroit were to use “Lose Yourself” in their ads without proper authorization, it is plausible that similar legal action could be taken.
