Recent developments in the NFL coaching landscape have seen former Chicago Bears head coaches Matt Eberflus and Thomas Brown taking on new roles with different teams.
Matt Eberflus Joins Dallas Cowboys as Defensive Coordinator
After his tenure as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2022 to 2024, Matt Eberflus has returned to the Dallas Cowboys, this time as their defensive coordinator.
Eberflus previously served as the Cowboys’ linebackers coach from 2011 to 2017. His return comes under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was promoted from offensive coordinator following Mike McCarthy’s departure. Eberflus brings a wealth of experience, including his time as the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, where he led successful defenses.
Thomas Brown Joins New England Patriots’ Coaching Staff
Thomas Brown, who served as the Chicago Bears’ interim head coach in 2024, is set to join the New England Patriots as their tight ends coach and passing game coordinator under head coach Mike Vrabel. Brown’s coaching journey includes roles as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2023 and various positions with the Los Angeles Rams from 2020 to 2022. During his interim head coaching stint with the Bears, he led the team to a 1-4 record, including a victory over the Green Bay Packers.
These moves reflect the dynamic nature of NFL coaching careers, with both Eberflus and Brown bringing their diverse experiences to their new roles in Dallas and New England, respectively.
