Former Boston Red Sox first base coach Andy Fox secured a new position with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for the 2025 baseball season.
The Pirates announced on Friday that he will be the new manager of Altoona, their Double-A affiliate.
Fox became part of the Red Sox major league team under manager Alex Cora, taking on the role of infield coordinator for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and subsequently worked as the first base coach in the 2024 season.
The two-time World Series champion has been appointed as the 16th manager in franchise history, taking over from Robby Hammock, who departed the Pirates organization after a single season to join the San Diego Padres staff.
Fox, who spent nine MLB seasons with the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Florida Marlins, Montreal Expos, and Texas Rangers, will head a revamped Curve coaching staff, featuring just one returnee from last season — bench coach Gary Green. Pitching coach Matt Ford begins his 12th season as a coach in the Pirates minor league system, while hitting coaches Scott Seabol and Casey Harms come on board Fox’s staff after working at the lower tiers of the Pirates minor league system in 2024.
In November, the Red Sox completed their coaching team for the 2025 season. They kept the majority of Cora’s team from 2024 and added a few new members, such as new first base coach José Flores.
