Ex-West Virginia University shooting guard Erik Stevenson has been chosen to take part in the NBA G League “Up Next” Game this Friday. During the NBA All-Star weekend, Stevenson will play for the Capital City Go-Go in the “Up Next” Game.
Following in the footsteps of guards from WVU such as Jevon Carter and Miles McBride, the ex-WVU guard is striving to make the leap to the NBA. The ex-Mountaineer is experiencing a standout year this season with the Go-Go — Stevenson delivered his top performance so far this season on November 24, 2024, scoring 36 points along with 2 assists and 2 rebounds. This season, Stevenson is averaging 15 points, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game for the Capital City Go-Go.
Stevenson competed for the Mountaineers in the 2022-23 season and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Third Team during his single year with the team. He recorded an average of 15.4 points per game at WVU and was a key scorer for the Mountaineers throughout his time in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers of 2022-23 entered the NCAA Tournament as a 9-seed in the legendary Bob Huggins’ last season, facing off against 8-seed Maryland. Regrettably, WVU was eliminated by the Terrapins in the opening round of the tournament.
In February 2024, during his time with the Austin Spurs, an NBA G League team, Stevenson spoke about the enduring bond he would maintain with WVU on the West Virginia MetroNews ‘3 Guys Before The Game’ podcast.
“Stevenson remarked on the podcast, ‘We’re present everywhere.’” “There will be random individuals; for example, we could be at different gyms, and a janitor might be a West Virginia fan, or a security guard in another gym, and I’ll say, how’s it going,” Stevenson remarked.
As a community that enjoys supporting former athletes, Mountaineer Nation will be watching Stevenson as he is set to make his NBA debut shortly. In the meantime, they can tune in to Stevenson next Sunday, February 16th at 3:30 PM EST on Tubi.
