Several college basketball analysts discussed Michigan basketball acquiring Elliot Cadeau from the transfer portal.
Only a few days post-elimination from the NCAA tournament, Michigan basketball is already enhancing its roster for the 2025-26 season.
The Wolverines have shown interest in several transfer portal prospects, but developments progressed rapidly with former North Carolina guard Elliot Cadeau, who revealed his commitment to Michigan basketball on Monday.
The previous five-star played 68 games for North Carolina over the last two seasons. He recorded an average of 9.4 points per game this season and 6.2 assists. He’s also a good defender, at least he was this season, but did encounter some turnover problems. He also made only 33 percent of his 3-point attempts this season. He recorded less than 20 percent during his freshman year.
Nevertheless, there is a lot of potential. Michigan basketball required playmaking, and the Wolverines will acquire that in Cadeau, one of the top playmakers available in the transfer portal.
Evan Miyakawa from EvanMiya.com posted this on X regarding the signing of Cadeau, referring to it as “a fantastic acquisition.”
“As one of the more controversial players in the portal, it’s undeniable that Cadeau is an exceptional playmaker and distributor.” He concluded the season ranking in the top 15 for projected assist rate, placing in the 99th percentile nationwide and receiving an A+ grade in Assists and Playmaking Score at EvanMiya.com. As a scorer, he’s fairly mediocre across the board, but he’s a good rebounder for a point guard and possesses good defensive ratings.
The partnership with Tre Donaldson will be intriguing, but it became evident by the season’s conclusion that Michigan required additional playmaking and ball-handling, particularly with Danny Wolf probably departing for the NBA draft. Kevin Sweeney, from SI Now, posted on X that he’s “curious to observe how Cadeau and Donaldson interact.”
